PS Rono Dismisses Claims of 2027 Bomet Governor Bid

Parliamentary Affairs Principal Secretary Aurelia Rono has dismissed claims that she is positioning herself to contest the Bomet gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

Rono said she has not declared any interest in the seat, insisting that her recent tour of duty in Bomet should not be misconstrued as political.

“I am discharging my duties as Principal Secretary and not engaging in political activities when I am here. There have been talks about me joining politics, but I have not declared any interest. What I am doing at the moment is helping the President deliver his mandate,” she said.

She spoke at Bomet University after meeting chiefs from various locations across the county to discuss the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The PS emphasised the need to reach out to residents at the grassroots level and encourage those who have not yet registered as voters to do so.

“It is my wish that everyone comes out. Time is running out, but we can still reach more people so that we achieve 100 per cent of the targeted new voters in Bomet,” she added.

Rono urged chiefs to conduct door-to-door campaigns to ensure all eligible citizens register, including those who do not yet have national identification cards.

“It is not too late for those without ID cards. There is still an opportunity for everyone to obtain a National Identification Card. For public awareness, IDs are being issued free of charge,” she said.

Already, 75 per cent of the targeted new voters in Bomet have registered, with four days remaining before the close of the Enhanced Voter Registration exercise.

IEBC Commissioner Mary Sorobit, who toured Bomet to oversee the exercise, expressed confidence in the turnout and called on the media to help amplify awareness.

“Bomet has the potential to register up to 90 per cent, and we are now urging leaders to join efforts to mobilise residents to come out and register,” she told the press in Bomet town.
