One person died and two others were seriously injured after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle linked to Mbeere North United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary aspirant Leonard Muthende along the BAT–Ugweri road on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The accident involved a motorcycle and a public address system vehicle belonging to the parliamentary candidate.
A 23-year-old man died on the spot, while two others were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Witnesses said both vehicles swerved to avoid a pothole, leading to a head-on collision that killed the rider on the spot.
According to Stephen Macharia, a cousin of the deceased, the accident happened as the young men were on their way to a football tournament in Siakago.
“We have lost our cousin through a road accident — a very young man whose vision has been cut short,” Macharia said.
Muthende expressed sorrow over the tragedy, pledging support to the affected families and urging against politicizing the incident.
The body was taken to Gakwegori Funeral Home, while the injured are receiving treatment at Embu Level 5 Hospital.

Report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) confirmed that 3,397 Kenyans lost their lives in road crashes during the first nine months of 2025, with pedestrians and motorcyclists bearing the brunt of the fatalities.
According to the National Road Safety Action Plan 2024–2028, most accidents occur in the evenings, when poor visibility, higher speeds, and alcohol consumption increase risks on the country’s busiest roads.
