Sotik Member of Parliament, Amb. Francis Sigei, has expressed concern over the increasing cases of defilement in the sub-county.
Sigei while talking to Bomet Newswire on November 1, 2025, said the alarming trend must be urgently addressed, adding that eradicating the vice requires a collective community effort.
“I want to condemn the rising cases in the strongest terms possible. Unfortunately, this has once again put Sotik in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. It is totally shameful,” Sigei said.
He cited a recent incident in which a Grade Five girl was defiled by a 30-year-old man, terming it disturbing and unacceptable. The MP urged both local leaders and residents to come together and find a lasting solution to the problem.
“This is a wake-up call to us as leaders and as a community. We must sit down, discuss this issue, and bring it to an end,” Sigei added.
Sigei also appealed to parents to be extra vigilant with their children during the long holiday period, which is often characterized by many social events and festivities.
“We don’t want to hear of teenage pregnancies in January or boys engaging in risky activities like riding boda bodas. Sigei said.
He added, “It is the parents’ responsibility to take care of their children in order to ensure they will get back to school comes January free from early pregnacies.”
The MP linked poor parenting to the rising cases of indiscipline and moral decay among the youth.

He spoke in Sotik Town after meeting with local leaders to discuss development plans aimed at improving the face of the town.
Sigei said several initiatives are underway to transform Sotik into a modern urban centre.
“We have a technical institute and a branch of Kabianga University here, among other institutions. These will play a big role in changing the face of Sotik Town,” he said.
