Excitement and anxiety have filled the air at Bomet University College as this year’s Cultural Week gets underway.
A fierce competition is expected as various cultural groups prepare to face off in a range of set pieces. The week-long event is being held at the Bomet IAAF Stadium, where the school administration has put in place security measures to avert incidents similar to those witnessed last year.
Bomet University College Principal, Prof. Charles Mutai, is expected to preside over the opening ceremony alongside the Dean of Students and other invited guests.
In 2024, Cultural Week was marred by unrest after students stormed the streets, accusing the administration of manipulating the event’s budget and sidelining their interests. The protests, which attracted countywide attention, culminated in the replacement of the Dean of Students—marking a turning point in student–administration relations.
This year, organizers say they are determined to chart a different path.
“We want this year’s Cultural Week to be student-centered,” said Boaz, the CS for Sports, underscoring the committee’s commitment to transparency and fairness.

Bomet University College President, Kimaiyo Kosgei Mathew, echoed the sentiment, pledging to safeguard learners’ interests.
“We believe the comrade is always right, and we are determined to make it happen,” he said, assuring that the 2025 edition will reflect the true voice and aspirations of students.
The week-long celebration will feature cultural exhibitions, music and dance showcases, traditional fashion parades, and inter-cultural performances — all aimed at highlighting the diversity that defines the university’s identity.
As anticipation builds, students hope the event will not only celebrate culture but also nurture unity, creativity, and a renewed sense of pride within the Bomet University community.
