What began as a modern-day love story during the COVID-19 pandemic has ended in heartbreak and public controversy for Kalenjin secular artist Faith Chepkirui, popularly known as Faith Therui, and her husband Addison Cheruiyot.

Three years ago, the two tied the knot in a glamorous wedding that captivated their fans and community. Today, their separation has become the talk of social media, with both airing deeply personal grievances.

The Rise of a Star and the Birth of a Love Story

Faith Therui, a celebrated musician with over ten successful albums, met Addison Cheruiyot online during the height of the pandemic. At the time, Addison was a student living in the United States on a sponsorship. Their digital connection blossomed into a real-world romance when he returned to Kenya.

Faith, then at the peak of her music career, slowed down her artistic pursuits to focus on building a life with Addison. Their love story appeared to be one of sacrifice and support. Addison even decided to cut short his stay abroad to pursue a Nursing course locally, a move the couple agreed on together.

But behind the smiles and public displays of affection, cracks were forming in their union.

Faith’s Heartache

Faith claims she gave her all to the relationship, including paying for Addison’s Nursing education. “I wanted to see him succeed. I sacrificed my resources to pay his fees,” she explained.

Her efforts, however, were met with betrayal, she alleges. According to Faith, Addison began cohabiting with another woman behind her back. Adding insult to injury, she accuses him of forging school fee receipts to take more money from her.

The most painful moment, she says, came when Addison convinced her to sell her property, including a house and land, under the pretense of consolidating their lives. “I didn’t know this was all part of a plan to leave me poor and abandoned,” Faith said tearfully.

Now a single mother of one, Faith says her priority is to rebuild her life. “I can’t continue living in stress. I’m filing for divorce so I can have a fresh start.”

Addison’s Side of the Story

Addison paints a very different picture. He denies Faith’s allegations and insists he has done everything to make the marriage work.

“Out of love for her, I tried extending an olive branch, but she shut me out,” Addison said. He claims their troubles began when Faith ventured into selling alcohol, a business he initially discouraged.

“She was always staying out late, sometimes not coming home for days. That’s when I started hearing rumors of her involvement with customers,” he revealed.

Addison recounts discovering Faith in a compromising position with one of her clients. “That moment shattered me. It became impossible to fix what we had.”

Despite the accusations, Addison acknowledges that Faith supported him financially for two semesters of his Nursing studies. He denies forging receipts or mismanaging funds and has accepted the inevitability of divorce.

“It’s a painful chapter, but I want to move on without holding grudges,” he said.

A Love That Fizzled Out

The couple’s love story, once a beacon of hope for their followers, has now become a cautionary tale.

Faith’s career, which had been on pause to focus on family, is slowly picking up as she seeks to regain her footing. Addison, on the other hand, is nearing the end of his studies and hopes to start afresh.

Their union, forged in the challenges of a global pandemic, couldn’t withstand the pressures of reality. While they once dreamed of a shared future, they now walk separate paths—each carrying the lessons of a love that couldn’t last.
