The passion for grassroots football continues to grow in Mutarakwa Ward as the Ken Ben Football Tournament, sponsored by Mr. Kenneth Rono, kicks off its second edition this holiday season.
The annual competition has quickly become one of the most anticipated sports events in the region, bringing together young players, fans, and community leaders to celebrate local talent and teamwork.
This year’s tournament features 26 teams drawn from six sub-locations, with matches set to be played across four venues — Sach Angwan, Muiywek, Kanusin, and Solyot — for the preliminary rounds in Bomet Central sub county.

The tournament officially begins on the 4th and 5th, culminating in a thrilling final match on the 31st at Sach Angwan Primary School Grounds.
According to the sponsor, Kenneth Rono, the main objective of the Ken Ben Tournament is to empower young people through sports, offering them a positive outlet during the school holidays and helping to identify and nurture emerging football talent.
“Our goal is to give young players an opportunity to showcase their skills and inspire them to pursue their dreams,” said Rono.
He added: “We also want to promote unity and community spirit through football while laying the foundation for a future sports academy in the region.”
Beyond the matches, the tournament aims to strengthen grassroots football structures, support local clubs, and advocate for the improvement of sports facilities, including the need for better stadiums across the region.
Winners of the tournament will walk away with cash prizes, trophies, footballs, and playing kits, while outstanding teams and individual players will receive special recognition for their performance and discipline on and off the pitch.
The Ken Ben Football Tournament has quickly established itself as a breeding ground for young talent and a key part of Mutarakwa’s sporting calendar.
With continued support from Kenneth Rono and the community, the tournament promises not only exciting football action but also a brighter future for local sports development.
