Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have intercepted a significant drug shipment and arrested a 42-year-old man in a high-stakes operation in Nakuru.
According to the report by DCI on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the suspect, identified as Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi, was apprehended while transporting the narcotics on a motorcycle (Registration No. KMEC 785W).
The report further stated that the "intelligence-led" operation successfully disrupted a major supply run intended for the local market.
Upon intercepting the motorcycle, detectives conducted a thorough search of the luggage Mwangi was carrying.
The search yielded: 397 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of Sh1.19 million, Two syringes and needles, Ten rolls of bhang, Three packets of cigarettes used to further conceal the illicit items.
"A search of the luggage uncovered 397 grams of heroin, neatly concealed for transport. Detectives also recovered two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes," the report reads.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a statement following the arrest, reaffirming their commitment to dismantling trafficking networks across the country.
"The arrest effectively cut short what detectives believe was an active drug supply run," the DCI stated. "With zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, we will ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all."
Mwangi remains in police custody as investigators finalize the case file. He is expected to be arraigned in court shortly to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of narcotics.
