Business owners along Nairobi’s Douglas Wakiiru Road woke up to a scene of destruction Tuesday morning after unidentified crews demolished several premises.
The early morning operation flattened car wash bays and restaurants along the former Aerodrome Road stretch, leaving traders counting heavy losses.
The demolition took place near the railway line close to Nyayo Stadium, with police providing security as contractors carried out the exercise.
While the land is reportedly owned by Kenya Railways, sources suggest the targeted structures are linked to a prominent politician though authorities have yet to issue an official statement.
According to the photos at the scene circulating online, it shows bulldozers and excavators flattening the structures in the area, accompanied by police officers who were at the scene to oversee the operations.
Some of the businesses destroyed during the operations are linked to Governor Wamatangi.
Security was tight throughout the night, and police cordoned off the area as the demolitions proceeded.

Nairobi Police Boss George Seda has cleared the air regarding the demolitions, confirming that the operation was carried out to reclaim land for Kenya Railways.
According to Seda, the "resistance" of the property owner to a prior vacation notice prompted the deployment of police to support the demolition.
While the structures reportedly linked to a prominent politician were flattened, Seda maintained that the exercise was conducted without any reported injuries.
