Bomet Central Member of Parliament Richard Kilel has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education through improved infrastructure in his constituency.
Speaking while commissioned five new classrooms at Tabok Primary School in Mutarakwa Ward, , Kilel pledged to help the school registered to offer Junior Secondary Education.
“Within a period of two weeks, Tabok Primary School will be fully registered to offer JSS education so that our children can continue learning without disruption and avoid traveling for long distances,” Kilel said.
The MP at the same time lauded Kapsangaru High School for posting impressive performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, noting that the school sent over 80 students to various universities.

“I want to appreciate Kapsangaru High School for this great achievement. Sending over 80 students to university is a clear indication that our schools can compete nationally,” he remarked.
To further support the institution, Kilel pledged to provide a new school bus to Kapsangaru High School by April.
“By April, Kapsangaru High School will have a new bus to ease transport challenges and support co-curricular activities,” he said.
On ongoing infrastructure development, the MP revealed that Koiyet School has benefited from a new storey building funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), while Kanusin Boys School is set to receive drilled water and road improvements in Tarakwa.
Kilel commended parents in the ward for demonstrating fairness and unity in the distribution of CDF bursaries, noting that such cooperation ensures support reaches the most deserving learners.
“I thank our parents for showing maturity and fairness in sharing bursaries among themselves. This is the spirit that builds our community,” he said.
He added that his office has prioritised day secondary schools, with plans to expand support to other institutions in the near future.
“Day schools remain my priority, and in the coming days we shall extend support to other schools as resources allow,” Kilel stated.
Addressing infrastructure and connectivity, the MP confirmed that last-mile electricity connectivity is part of his development agenda, adding that a new transformer has already been installed to serve local residents.
“We are connecting our people to electricity through last-mile connectivity, and a new transformer has already been installed here,” he noted.
On challenges facing the education sector, Kilel acknowledged concerns surrounding Grade 10 placement, attributing the issue to the selection process and pledging to seek answers in Parliament.
“The challenge we saw in Grade 10 came from the selection process, and as leaders, we shall raise this matter in Parliament to understand why it happened,” he said.
The MP also urged parents to comply with presidential directives requiring all children to attend school with or without fees, saying enforcement will be carried out through local administrators.
“I call upon parents to take their children to school as directed by the President. This directive will be reinforced through our chiefs to ensure every child is in school,” Kilel emphasized.
In a major social welfare announcement, Kilel revealed that through the Kilel Foundation, funds have been set aside to pay Social Health Authority (SHA) contributions for over 720 elderly and needy residents for an entire year.

“Through the Kilel Foundation, we have set aside funds to pay SHA for more than 720 elderly and vulnerable members of our society for a whole year. The selection will be done transparently by chiefs and community chairpersons,” he said.
Residents welcomed the announcements, terming them a major boost to education, healthcare, and overall development in Mutarakwa Ward.
