Kimanaga, Bomet County — Shock and grief have engulfed residents of Kimanaga Village in Kapolesero Sub-Location after the body of a 16-year-old Form Two student, who went missing on Saturday, was discovered in a private water dam under suspicious circumstances.

According to area chief Stanley Kilel, the girl failed to return home after attending school, prompting a frantic search by family members and local residents. The search ended tragically on Monday morning when members of the public found her body floating in the dam.

“We suspect foul play, possibly rape and murder, before the body was dumped in the dam,” said Chief Kilel. “The deceased was partially dressed when found, which raises serious concerns. We have handed the matter over to the police for thorough investigation.”

Detectives from Chebunyo Police Station have since launched investigations into the incident, seeking to unravel the mystery surrounding the girl’s death.

Family members told reporters that the student had spent the night at a friend’s house on Friday and proceeded to school on Saturday morning. Her grandmother, who is her guardian, visited the school that day and confirmed her presence. However, the girl never returned home afterward.

“When she didn’t come home on Friday night, her grandmother started searching for her. She found her at school on Saturday. Unfortunately, after school, the girl disappeared again and wasn’t seen until her body was discovered,” said a relative who requested anonymity.

The student had been living with her grandmother following the separation of her parents.

Chief Kilel urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and closely involved in the lives of their children, especially during school terms and weekends.

“We must strengthen our support and communication with our children to prevent such tragic outcomes,” he emphasized.

As investigations continue, the community is left mourning a young life cut short under heartbreaking and mysterious circumstances.
