Acting Bomet County Commissioner Leonard Mguse has raised the alarm over a resurgence of drug trafficking and the widespread consumption of illicit brews in the county.
Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations at Kimirai School in Sotik, Mguse urged residents to work closely with law enforcement agencies to eliminate the vices once and for all.
“We have intercepted several hauls of bhang in transit through Bomet, and our efforts will not stop there. I urge residents to support these crackdowns so that we can bring this menace to an end,” said Mguse.
He further expressed concern over the growing prevalence of illicit alcohol, describing it as a tough challenge for security agencies and a threat to the youth.
“The trade in illicit brews continues to destroy lives, especially among our young people. Chiefs must intensify efforts and ensure their jurisdictions are free from this poison,” he added.

Prof. Barchok also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to supporting education through the county’s scholarship program. He assured residents that recent legal issues affecting the county bursary scheme would soon be resolved.
“We are committed to ensuring our bright and needy students continue receiving support. The matter is being addressed by the Council of Governors, and we’ll keep our promise,” he said.
In addition, the governor assured traders in Kaplong operating along the roads that plans were underway to establish an open-air market to accommodate them in a safer and more organized setting.
