Rongena-Manaret Ward MCA Rosalyn Cheptoo has unveiled a bold, climate-resilient water plan, breaking down a multi-million-shilling investment aimed at transforming access to clean water across Bomet County.
Speaking during the launch of the KSh 9 million Kibara Dam Solaration and Water Tank Project, Cheptoo emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative—funded under the World Bank-backed FLLoCA programme—in turning the tide on water scarcity.
“As a county, we’ve committed over KSh 230 million over the next five years to dam and spring development across all 25 wards. This phased approach—covering five wards annually—is our blueprint for water security and climate resilience,” said Cheptoo, who also chairs the Water Committee in the Bomet County Assembly.
The Kibara Dam project, now officially underway, is the latest in this transformative pipeline. It features solar-powered water systems, high-capacity tanks, proper fencing, and even CCTV installation for security—elements Cheptoo said must be executed to the highest standards.
“This project is more than infrastructure—it is a lifeline. And it also symbolizes the peaceful coexistence and cooperation between the Barabu Kisii and Kipsigis communities here in Rongena-Manaret,” she said.
The public participation event, held ahead of the dam’s official groundbreaking, drew a strong turnout of residents, local leaders, and technical officers—reflecting the community’s strong backing for the project.

Also in attendance was County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, Chepkuto Jepchirchir Juliah, who reaffirmed the county government’s resolve to expand access to clean water despite budgetary challenges.
“Water is back on the agenda in Bomet. Despite delays in disbursement from the Exchequer, we are pressing ahead with urgency and commitment to meet the needs of our people,” said Chepkuto.
Community members praised the project and their MCA’s advocacy. Julius Kirui, a local resident, said, “We’re finally getting the safe water we’ve long waited for. Now it’s our duty as residents to safeguard this development.”
The Kibara Dam Solaration and Water Tank Project is one of several initiatives under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme, aimed at empowering grassroots communities to adapt to climate change.
With continued support and oversight, the project is expected to set a benchmark for climate-conscious water infrastructure across the region.
