Bomet East MP Richard Yegon has strongly condemned the shocking incident where a PP2 pupil was allegedly defiled by a 58-year-old school watchman in Bomet East, calling for severe legal action against sex offenders.
Speaking at Kugunoi Primary School during the official opening of newly renovated classrooms, the MP said such heinous acts should not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“There should be no mercy for perpetrators of defilement and rape,” Yegon declared. “Suspects should be sent straight to jail—where they belong. In fact, such individuals should be denied bail because they are a danger to society.”
The legislator expressed deep concern over the rising cases of defilement and gender-based violence in Bomet County, urging law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to adopt a no-nonsense approach to curb the menace.
“It’s heartbreaking to see our children and women being violated in this manner,” he said. “The statistics paint a grim picture. We must act collectively as leaders, parents, and society to protect the vulnerable and bring this crisis under control.”
Yegon emphasized that tougher enforcement and harsher penalties would serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders.
His remarks come just days after the disturbing weekend incident in which a four-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a school watchman, sparking outrage and calls for justice from both leaders and residents.

Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir, popularly known as ‘Toto’, joined the calls for swift justice, condemning the incident as a reflection of the deteriorating moral fabric in society.
“This is an absolute disgrace. A child entrusted to the care of adults ends up being harmed by the very person meant to protect her,” said Chepkorir. “We demand a thorough investigation, and we want to see the suspect face the full force of the law.”
She urged the judiciary to hand down the maximum sentence allowed by law, stating that such punishment would serve as a strong warning to others.
“Let this be a lesson to all would-be offenders. Anyone who targets minors should know there is no place for them in our society,” she added.
Bomet County continues to record high cases of defilement and gender-based violence, drawing the attention of both local and national human rights institutions. Recent data places the county among the regions most affected by such crimes, prompting a growing chorus of leaders calling for urgent action.
