The National Treasury’s Programmes Implementation Unit (TNTPIU), under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme, has lauded Bomet County for making remarkable strides in implementing climate action projects.

During a courtesy call on Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok, a delegation led by FLLoCA Program Coordinator Dr. Peter Odhengo commended the county for rolling out impactful initiatives that are transforming communities and strengthening resilience to climate change.

Governor Barchok reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the programme, pledging continued financial support and oversight to ensure the timely and successful completion of all projects. He emphasized that grassroots-driven climate action remains central to Bomet’s development agenda.

The team, which included County Coordination Project Manager Abraham Barsosio, Environmental Risk Management Specialist Selela Akoth, and officers from the County Climate Change Unit, later toured the FLLoCA-funded Olbobo borehole in Kipreres Ward.

The borehole, one of seven similar projects across the county, now supplies clean water to over 500 households, Olbobo Primary and Secondary schools, and neighbouring villages. The project has significantly reduced water scarcity challenges, eliminating the need for residents to walk more than three kilometres to fetch water from Amalo River.

Dr. Odhengo hailed the project as a model investment, noting its far-reaching impact on public health, economic well-being, and climate adaptation.

“We have seen the project’s success firsthand. Residents now enjoy reliable access to clean water, a development that strengthens community resilience and improves livelihoods,” he said.

The Olbobo borehole stands out as a shining example of how locally-led climate action can deliver life-changing results for rural communities.
