Homa Bay County Government has today interdicted a senior officer in the county following serious allegations of misconduct, assault, and intimidation of a journalist.

In a statement dated Monday, September 15, 2025, the county announced that Human Resources Officer in the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works, Ms. Beatrice Mercy Akugo, had been interdicted with immediate effect to pave the way for investigations.

This decision follows grave accusations that Ms. Akugo is facing allegations of involvement in the abduction, assault, and harassment of a Homa Bay-based journalist.

According to the statement, the journalist was allegedly abducted, held against his will, physically assaulted, and threatened.

“The interdiction is a standard procedural measure to allow for a thorough, impartial, and unimpeded investigation into these allegations. The County Government is fully cooperating with the National Police Service and other relevant investigative agencies to ensure a comprehensive probe is conducted,” said Atieno Otieno, Chief Officer of Public Communication and government Spokesperson, on the statement.
