Faith Kipyegon has once again proved her supremacy on the global stage, storming to a historic fourth world 1500m crown at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The 31-year-old Kenyan athlete turned the final into a battle against the field by clinching her fifth consecutive global gold in the event, winning the race in Tokyo, Japan.
She clocked 3 minutes 52.15 seconds, with her dominance underlined by the nearly three-second gap before Kenya’s Dorcas Ewoi crossed the line, sealing her fourth consecutive global gold in the event.
Kipyegon’s win makes her the second Kenyan, after Ezekiel Kemboi of steeplechase, to win four individual world titles.
Dorcas Ewoi also shone in the competition ahead of Australia’s Jessica Hull by finishing at 3:54:92, bringing a silver win for Kenya.
Hull, who finished at 3:55:16, initially tried to keep pace with Kipyegon but faded to bronze, allowing Ewoi to secure position two.
Nelly Chepchirchir of Kenya finished fourth at 3:55:25.
This win became Kenya's third gold medal in Tokyo, all won by women. Beatrice Chebet took the 10,000m on the opening day, before Peres Jepchirchir claimed the women's marathon title the following day.
