At least 170 primary schools in Bomet County are operating without Junior Secondary, disadvantaging many leaner’s.

The situation has caught the eyes of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)officials who have raised concerns and demanded immediate action by the ministry of education.

KNUT Bomet Branch Executive Secretary Desmond Langat said the situation has forced learners to travel many Kilometers to schools with Junior Secondary sections.

He said despite the County Education approving to have all schools allowed to operate Junior Schools the ministry was yet to give schools Green light.

“We have approved and its a policy of the ministry that all schools should have JS and its is sad to note that in Bomet a huge number of schools are yet to get green light to establish,” he said.

Langat said further delay was exposing learners to dangers.

“We are afraid of learners safety especially those who cross rivers or busy highways. The ministry should move with speed and address the matter urgently,” he added.

The executive Secretary warned that any further delays may forced them to institute action and forced the ministry to work on the demand.

“We will not sit back and watch as this continue, regardless of the problems or conditions the schools have not meet let them be allowed to start off,” Langat insisted.

The Bomet Branch executive Secretary was in the company of his Sotik Counterpart Mathias Langat who echoed the sentiments.

Langat said his backyard of Sotik was worse hit by the situation .

“I think in sotik we ate not any better. The ministry of education should not pretend while exposing leaner’s to hash controls while looking for education,” he added.

Local officials from the ministry of education acknowledged the situation saying most of the affected schools were being addressed.
