The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned the brutal assault of a woman in Mbene, Ngarite area of Narok Central Sub-County, terming it a barbaric and criminal act that will not go unpunished.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, NPS Director of Corporate Communication and Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the Service had taken note of disturbing footage circulating on social media showing the victim being viciously attacked.

According to the statement, police officers responded swiftly to the incident, rescuing the woman and rushing her to hospital for treatment.

The service said the act amounts to gender-based violence, assault and kidnapping which are all punishable under Kenyan law and vowed to pursue every suspect involved until they are brought to book.

The police said that investigations were launched immediately, with a coordinated manhunt for the perpetrators.

One suspect has already been arrested and is in custody pending arraignment in court.

The Service said officers remain in pursuit of the remaining suspects, who are being tracked down to face justice for their roles in the attack.

The NPS commended members of the public whose timely information helped identify and apprehend the first suspect, acknowledging the power of community cooperation in fighting crime.

The Service also thanked its officers for their prompt response and urged any person with additional information to come forward.

Reaffirming its zero tolerance to gender-based violence, the service said it remains steadfast in upholding human rights, fundamental freedoms and dignity for all Kenyans.

“We will continue to be at the forefront of the fight against gender-based violence and ensure all offenders are held accountable,” the statement read.

The incident has sparked public outrage online, with Kenyans calling for swift justice and stronger protections for vulnerable individuals.

As investigations continue, the NPS has assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing the remaining perpetrators to book and in reinforcing the message that such acts have no place in society.
