A 25-year-old woman identified as Jalody Chepkirui tragically died on Thursday afternoon after she was electrocuted while hanging clothes outside her residential house in Kipranye area of Bomet Central Sub-County.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 PM on Friday, September 3, 2025.
According to a report filed at Bomet Police Station, Ms. Chepkirui was washing clothes outside her residential house in Kipranye and when she was hanging the clothes outside she was electrocuted.
"That today at around 1300hrs one lady by the name Jalody Chepkirui aged 25 years was washing clothes outside her residential house and when she was hanging the clothes outside the house on drying line, she was electrocuted," part of the report reads.
The incident was reported to the Bomet Police Station by three area residents—Benard Kirui, Wesley Koskei, and Emmanuel Kipkoech—who went to the station later at the evening on Friday.
The police filed the incident under Occurrence Book (OB) number 44/03/10/2025.
Neighbours and personnel from Kenya Power in Bomet Town responded to the scene and managed to rescue the woman. She was rushed to Oasis Hospital in Bomet Town and subsequently transferred to Longisa Referral Hospital.
"On arrival she was pronounced dead," the police report confirmed.
The body of the deceased is currently lying at Longisa Referral Hospital awaiting an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
The police have classified the matter as a "Case P.U.I." (Pending Under Investigation), with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Bomet handling the ongoing inquiry.
