Security officers have launched investigations over a concerning case in Khwisero sub-county, Kakamega County, where 31 candidates are allegedly taking their national exams while pregnant.
During a public baraza Janet Khatambi, the sub-county commissioner for Khwisero, disclosed that she received a list of pregnant candidates taking the KCSE, KPSEA, and KJSEA exams.
The commissioner expressed concern that this trend could negatively affect the academic performance of the pregnant students.
"I have been given a list of 31 candidates who are pregnant who require our attention during exams. I have been forced to look for a vehicle to be on a standby to take candidates in labour pain to the hospital." Khatambi said.
Khatambi confirmed that her team has already initiated a search for the men responsible for impregnating the schoolgirls.
She issued a stern warning that the culprits would be arrested and prosecuted to set an example for others.
She said the culprits preying on school girls will serve as an example to others.
" We are looking for those sex predators who impregnated our school girls. They will serve as an example," warned Khatambi.

The commissioner also reflected on the heartbreak this brings to parents, who often struggle financially to keep their daughters in school.
Khwisero Member of Parliament, Christopher Aseka said that the security team in the area will deal with those found preying for the young girls in the region.
"We have men who are preying on school girls and defiling minors in the villages here at Khwisero. Our security apparatus should deal with such people firmly," said Aseka.
