Police bust ‘Tokyo Mafias’ gang in Makadara, arrest 10

A multi-agency police operation has led to the dismantling of a notorious criminal gang operating in Makadara, Nairobi, with 10 persons of interest arrested during a targeted crackdown.

Officers from South B Police Station conducted a targeted security operation on April 11, 2026, dismantling a criminal group identified as the “Tokyo Mafias” operating within Makadara, Nairobi.

Ten persons of interest were cornered during the operation and taken into custody at South B Police Station pending processing and arraignment in court.

“Officers from South B Police Station yesterday, 11th April 2026, successfully conducted a well-coordinated crackdown on a notorious criminal group known as the ‘Tokyo Mafias’,” NPS statement read in part.

During the operation, police recovered an imitation firearm along with a cache of crude weapons, including pangas and swords, believed to have been used in a series of robberies and violent attacks within the sub-county.

Authorities also seized two television sets suspected to be stolen property, as well as various house-breaking tools used to facilitate burglaries in the area.

All 10 persons of interest are currently being held at South B Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

“A total of ten suspects were apprehended during the raid. The suspects were found in possession of an imitation firearm and other lethal weapons, including pangas and swords. The team also recovered two television sets suspected to be stolen property, alongside various house-breaking implements used to facilitate burglaries within the sub-region,” NPS statement read in part.

Public intelligence and coordinated policing

The police credited members of the public for providing critical intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation. Officers emphasised that community cooperation remains central to identifying and dismantling criminal networks.

According to the statement, the operation reflects intensified policing efforts in Nairobi aimed at improving safety in densely populated estates through targeted raids and intelligence-led enforcement.

Authorities urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities and working closely with security agencies to strengthen neighbourhood safety.

They also confirmed that follow-up operations are ongoing to prevent regrouping of criminal elements.

“The National Police Service thanks the public for their support and urges them to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our neighbourhoods,” NPS stated.
