Youthful parliamentary aspirant Mercy Cheptoo Bimbin has accused Konoin MP Brighton Yegon of hiring goons to disrupt a recent empowerment event at Ngererit Primary School.
In a strongly worded statement, Cheptoo claimed individuals allied to the MP infiltrated the event and booed leaders perceived not to support him.
“Goons paid by the area MP infiltrated the gathering and were deliberately hired to heckle and block his rivals from addressing the event,” she said.
She alleged that the disruption was aimed at silencing key leaders, including former Konoin MP Dr Julius Kones and Mogogosiek MCA Ernest Kipkemoi.

“What we witnessed was not ordinary political excitement. It was a calculated attempt to deny leaders the democratic right to speak to the people,” Bimbin said.
She further claimed there were plans to block, intimidate, and possibly attack her to prevent her from attending and contributing to the event.
Terming the incident “dangerous and shameful,” she warned that such actions threaten the democratic fabric of Konoin and the wider Bomet County.
The aspirant also linked the alleged planning of the disruption to Dennis Yegon, whom she identified as a brother to the MP and a serving Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer.
She questioned the alleged involvement of a disciplined officer in political chaos, noting that public servants are sworn to uphold the Constitution and protect citizens.

Bimbin is increasingly being seen as a serious contender poised to challenge Yegon, who is seeking a third term in office.
Political observers in Konoin say the youthful leader’s growing popularity has reshaped the local political landscape, positioning her among the strongest challengers in the upcoming contest.
On several occasions, the MP has publicly criticised her — a move some residents interpret as a sign of rising political tension as competition intensifies.
Bimbin has declared she will vie on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket and has consistently aligned herself with President William Ruto’s development agenda.
She says her campaign will focus on youth empowerment, inclusivity, and development-driven leadership.
By the time of publication, MP Brighton Yegon had not responded to the allegations.
The incident has sparked sharp political debate in Konoin, with residents calling for calm and urging leaders to embrace peaceful competition as the country heads toward the next general election.
