The construction of a 2,000-seater sports facility in Sotik Sub-County is set to commence soon, with the project expected to boost sporting activities and youth talent development in Bomet County.
The proposed Dr Joyce Laboso Community Sports Ground will be established at the 181 Stadium grounds and will be implemented by Sports Kenya.
The Bomet County Government in a statement on Monday, August 10, 2026, said the project marks a “significant milestone” in its efforts to promote sports and youth development across the county.

The county said the development was unveiled on Monday, August 10, during a joint meeting involving the Department of Youths and Sports, the Department of Lands, Sports Kenya and technical teams involved in the project.
The site assessment was conducted at the 181 Stadium grounds, where the proposed facility will be constructed.
The inspection brought together County Executive Committee Member for Youths and Sports Philip Maritim, Lands CECM Rosa, Sports Kenya officials and the contractor.
Inside the sports ground
The county said the project, which will be implemented by Sports Kenya, is “expected to commence soon.”Once completed, the facility will provide “a modern platform for nurturing sporting talent and promoting youth development in Sotik and the wider county,” the county said.
The development is expected to give young athletes in Sotik access to improved facilities for training and competitions while creating a venue capable of hosting larger sporting events.

The county said the investment is part of its broader efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and provide opportunities for young people to develop their talents.
The proposed facility will have a seating capacity of 2,000 people, potentially making it one of the major sporting venues in the area once completed.
Also present during the site visit were Acting Chief Officer for Youths and Sports Dr Nelson Tore and the National Government’s Technical Public Works team led by Engineer Angwenyi, alongside other stakeholders.
The county said the sports ground will help “promote sports and youth development” while providing a platform for nurturing talent in Sotik and the wider Bomet region.
The facility is named after former Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso, who served as governor between 2017 and 2019.
