The Bomet County Government has cautioned residents against falling victim to fraudsters purporting to recruit Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers on behalf of the county.
The Department of Education and Vocational Training said it had received reports of an individual impersonating a county official and falsely presenting himself as the Director of Early Childhood Development.
According to the department in a statement on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the suspect, identified as Koech, is allegedly using the phone number 072807***1 and appears as “CDE” on Truecaller.

The number is reportedly registered to Nathan on M-Pesa.
The person of interest is said to be misleading members of the public into believing that he has the authority to recruit ECDE teachers for the Bomet County Government.
The county government has stressed that genuine ECDE vacancies are advertised and recruitment conducted through official and legally established channels, with the County Public Service Board (CPSB) responsible for communicating employment opportunities.
Residents have consequently been urged to exercise caution and avoid dealing with individuals who demand money in exchange for promises of employment.
“Do not pay anyone for an ECDE job,” the Department of Education and Vocational Training cautioned.
The department further urged residents to verify recruitment information through the official County Government of Bomet platforms before sharing personal details or making any payments.

The warning comes amid continued concerns over online fraud and recruitment scams, which have increasingly targeted jobseekers by exploiting the high demand for employment opportunities.
The county government said members of the public should report anyone soliciting money in exchange for county employment to the relevant authorities.
Residents have also been advised against sharing sensitive personal information, including identification and financial details, with unverified individuals claiming to represent government institutions.
The county reiterated that employment opportunities within the county government are offered through transparent recruitment procedures and warned that anyone seeking to bypass the established process risks losing money to fraudsters.
Members of the public are therefore encouraged to rely on official county communication channels when seeking information about ECDE and other county government vacancies.
