The person of interest, identified was arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after officers at Kibra Police Station received a distress call reporting that the girl had been seriously assaulted.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) X statement on Monday, September 7, officers accompanied by members of the community policing team rushed to the scene but found that the suspect had already taken the critically injured child to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment.

“A 47-year-old father is in police custody after allegedly defiling and brutally assaulting his nine-year-old daughter, who later succumbed to her injuries in Kibra, Nairobi,” the DCI statement read.

Preliminary examination of the girl

A preliminary examination of the child’s body reportedly revealed multiple bruises and swellings, as well as a freshly lost upper incisor tooth, indicating the extent of the injuries she had sustained.

The DCI further said subsequent examination indicated that the child had also been sexually assaulted.

“The deceased’s body was moved to Nairobi Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination,” the DCI said in a statement.

The person of interest remains in police custody as detectives continue processing the case ahead of his arraignment in court.

The circumstances surrounding the assault and the events leading to the child’s death are expected to form part of investigations before the person of interest is presented in court.

Investigators are expected to rely on the postmortem findings, witness accounts and other evidence as they build the case against the suspect.
