Wiper Partriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned the government against arresting Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, saying the opposition will resist any attempt to intimidate leaders associated with the United Alternative Government.
Speaking during a press conference on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Kalonzo said the National Police Service had issued a statement threatening to arrest Natembeya and possibly other opposition leaders.
He cautioned the government against targeting political leaders, insisting that any action taken against them must comply with the law.
“We want to make it very clear to this regime that we will resist any attempt to harass any national leader, and so Governor Natembeya included,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader said he had previously represented Natembeya in a case in which the governor was arrested and arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.
Kalonzo claimed the renewed threat of arrest was linked to the governor’s growing popularity and his association with opposition leaders, although he did not provide evidence to support the allegation.
“So, we just want to caution them that tolerance is very important in a democratic state,” he said.
He added that Natembeya would receive legal representation if the authorities moved to arrest him.
Kalonzo questions Ruto’s remarks on leaders facing accidents
Kalonzo also criticised President William Ruto over remarks he said suggested that political leaders could face accidents, demanding an explanation from the Head of State.
The opposition leader described the reported remarks as careless, particularly with the country approaching the 2027 General Election.
“When a head of state says that leaders will face accidents, we want them to come out clean and clear, because in an election year, that is absolutely careless talk from the head of state,” he said.

Kalonzo urged the administration to explain what the President meant, arguing that such statements could raise concerns about the safety of leaders engaging in opposition politics.
He further accused the administration of allowing groups he described as goons to cause disruptions before blaming opposition leaders, without presenting specific evidence during the press conference to substantiate the allegation.
Kalonzo rallies Kenyans ahead of 2027 elections
The Wiper leader called on Kenyans to remain vigilant and pursue political change through the ballot, saying the opposition would challenge the current administration in the next general election.
Kalonzo urged Kenyans to protect themselves as they work towards what he described as liberating the country from poor leadership.

Kalonzo thanked the Luo community for what he described as its opposition to Ruto serving a second term, arguing that the administration was facing growing political resistance.
He maintained that the opposition would seek to remove the current administration through the ballot in 2027.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Trans Nzoia following disagreements between Ruto and Natembeya over development projects and the allocation of market stalls in the county.
The tensions have also coincided with clashes between rival political supporters in Kitale on Friday, October 16, which left two police officers injured and two government vehicles damaged, according to the National Police Service.
The police said investigations had been launched into the incident and warned that those found culpable would face appropriate action under the law.
