Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Faith Nguthu has donated food to support affected families of the collapsed Eastleigh building and emergency response staff.
Nguthu visited the scene today as rescue operations at Eastleigh’s 9th Street in Nairobi entered the fifth day.
Nguthu, popularly known as Mama Singapore, is seeking the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking to the press at the scene on Wednesday, October, 28, 2026, Nguthu said she had visited to encourage families affected by the tragedy and offer assistance as rescuers continued searching for people believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
“Mimi mkaazi wa Nairobi na nasimama kiti ya Women Rep na nimekuja, kwanza huku sisi, sababu ya ile maneno ilifanyika nyumba zikaanguka na niliona kwa TV, mara ya kwanza na imekuwa ikizunguka kwa masimu zetu,” she said.

“So as a mother, nimekuja kupatia hawa hope na kuwasaidia na chakula kidogo. na nasema watu wafuate ile protocol ya ujenzi,” Nguthu added.

Families had gathered near the collapsed building, hoping for news of missing relatives, while well-wishers brought food and water to support those affected and emergency personnel.

Beyond the donations, the UDA aspirant called on developers and other parties involved in construction to follow the required procedures, warning that shortcuts could endanger lives.
“Kama ni hizo mambo za kujenga, watu wafuate hizi vitu, tuache kupitia vitu za nusu nusu sababu kuna watu tunaambiwa leo wako huko chini wanaumia innocently,” she said.
Nguthu described the sudden collapse as a tragedy for people who believed their homes were safe.
“Wao walikuwa wanajua nyumba imejengwa vizuri, all of a sudden mtu alikuwa ametoka asubuhi kukuja kazini, nyumba ikaanguka,” she said.

“All because people didn’t follow the protocols,” she added, urging Nairobi County leaders to ensure construction requirements are followed.
Her remarks did not establish the official cause of the collapse.
Woman Rep bid
Nguthu’s visit comes as political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2027 elections.
Her public agenda includes women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, youth opportunities and grassroots leadership.
Her campaign has involved engagements with UDA delegates in Kibra, youth leaders representing Nairobi’s 17 constituencies and leaders from Makadara.
The donations offered immediate assistance to families and emergency response personnel, while her calls for construction accountability raise broader questions about building safety in Nairobi.

She has also called for free, fair and transparent party nominations.

The Eastleigh visit places humanitarian support and public safety among the issues associated with her campaign.
The Woman Representative’s office provides a national platform to advocate for women’s interests and raise community concerns, although direct enforcement of county construction regulations rests with the relevant authorities.
As Nguthu pursues the UDA nomination, her humanitarian activities and policy proposals will form part of how voters assess her priorities and plans for Nairobi residents.
