President William Ruto has announced that dairy farmers will begin earning KSh 65 per litre of milk starting this month, alongside an additional KSh 2 bonus to be paid quarterly, with farmers set to receive their payments during the first week of every month.
Speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret The president highlighted that the agricultural reforms were meant to improve the returns to farmers .
“Beginning this month dairy farmers will earn ksh 65 per litre with a bonus if Ksh 2 to be paid every quarter .” he said
He further noted that farmers previously earned between KSh 35 and KSh 60 per litre, describing the new rate as an improvement in earnings for milk producers.

According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Economic Survey 2026, milk production in Kenya stood at 5,521.1 million litres in 2025, marking three consecutive years of steady growth in production .
This announcement comes after months of milk shortages in the country, with supermarkets and other retail outlets experiencing scarcity amid high demand, leading to rising milk prices in some outlets.
Days earlier, President Ruto pledged to clear KSh 400 million in debt owed to dairy farmers through the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC).
The President also announced plans to decentralise KCC’s operations, allowing individual factories to manage their production and distribution independently rather than relying on a centralised system in which milk from different collection centres is transported to Nairobi for distribution across the country.
“We will ensure that each factory will not have any outstanding debts as we clear the ones in Nairobi,” the President said.
