The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has directed the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) within seven days.
In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the Tribunal found that the RPP’s decision to decline to reserve the proposed name was without legal justification.
The Tribunal also ordered the RPP to reserve the name and its abbreviation, LMM, in accordance with the law.
“A declaration is hereby issued that the decision of the respondent (RPP) contained in a letter dated August 7, 2026, declining to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement was without legal justification,” the Tribunal ruled.
Caroli Omondi welcomes the decision
The decision has been welcomed by LMM officials, with Caroli Omondi saying the Tribunal found that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties’ decision breached Sections 8 and 4 of the Political Parties Act and violated Articles 21, 36 and 38 of the Constitution.
“The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has found that the ORPP’s decision to decline the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) lacked legal justification and breached Sections 8 and 4 of the Political Parties Act and also violated Articles 21, 36 and 38 of the Constitution,” Omondi said in a statement shared on X.
He said the Tribunal had immediately set aside the Registrar’s decisions contained in letters dated June 11, 2026, and August 7, 2026.
“The PPDT Tribunal has directed the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) be considered within the next seven (7) days,” Omondi added.
Omondi also thanked the movement’s legal team led by Tonny Odera of Bansbury Associates Advocates LLP, alongside counsels Duncan Anzala, Victor Olao and Titus Makhanu.
“We thank God for this decision and Linda Mwananchi Movement-LMM remains stronger,” he said.
