NPS Confirms Receipt of Davis Lichuma Missing Person Report

The National Police Service (NPS) has called on the public to report any cases of enforced disappearances, torture, or other human rights violations.

The police service said it is treating allegations circulating on mainstream and social media with the seriousness they deserve.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, June 26, NPS said it remains committed to accountability and transparency and urged anyone with credible information to report the matter at the nearest police station for investigation.

“As a Service committed to accountability and transparency, we take these claims seriously. We therefore urge anyone with information or specific allegations of enforced disappearance, torture, or other human rights violations to report the matter immediately at the nearest police station,” the statement read.

Missing person reports

The police also confirmed receiving a missing person report concerning Davis Lichuma, which was lodged at Central Police Station in Nairobi.

“Furthermore, we acknowledge receipt of a report of a missing person, namely Davis Lichuma, which was made at Central Police Station in Nairobi,” the statement said.

The Service assured Kenyans that all reported cases will be investigated thoroughly, professionally, impartially and expeditiously in accordance with the law.

NPS reiterated its commitment to professional policing, respect for human rights and adherence to the Constitution, saying it remains dedicated to serving and protecting all Kenyans, residents and visitors while observing all legal procedures in its operations.

“The National Police Service remains fully dedicated to professional policing that serves and protects all Kenyans, residents, and visitors. We uphold the constitutional rights of every person and strictly follow all legal procedures in our operations,” NPS stated.

Who were arrested

Davis was among those that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, revealed that at least 355 people were arrested across the country in connection with the protests as the government praised Kenyans for maintaining peace during the commemoration of the second anniversary of the Gen Z protests.

Speaking during a presser on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Murkomen said the arrests were linked to various criminal offences committed under the guise of peaceful demonstrations.

“Consequently, a total of 355 arrests were made in connection with the demonstrations, and this is a developing case,” Murkomen stated.

The government had mounted security screening on major roads leading into Nairobi, a move Murkomen said helped maintain calm in the city and its environs, despite causing inconvenience to some motorists and travellers.

He noted that the demonstrations were largely peaceful, with families and friends of victims of previous protests holding processions in Nairobi and Mombasa without major incidents.
