A delegation of members of the Kipsigis community from Kenya’s South Rift region has arrived at Wamunyoro for consultations in a meeting expected to focus on political and community affairs.

The gathering, currently underway, brings together leaders and representatives from the Kipsigis community as part of ongoing engagement with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader as he continues with his 45-day political consultations at his residence, which has recently hosted a series of consultations with different groups from across the country.

The meeting is expected to discuss issues affecting the community and the country’s political landscape.

DCP popularity in South Rift

The consultations come just days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) posted a strong showing in the Emurua Dikirr by-election.

Although the constituency was widely regarded as President William Ruto’s political stronghold, the party’s candidate, Vincent Rotich, secured more than 10,000 votes to finish second behind United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Keter, a performance that has been viewed by political observers as a significant inroad into the South Rift.

“Congratulations to the DCP PARTY candidate in the Emurua Dikkir by-election, Hon. Vincent Rotich, for the splendid performance that has shaken South Rift politics, which for far too long, in fact for over 60 years, has been left behind in independent Kenya. A score of 10,760 votes is no mean feat,” Gachagua said.

Rotich’s bid gained momentum following the presentation of his nomination certificate by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at the DCP headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.

The event was attended by a delegation of leaders from the Kipsigis community.

Gachagua had urged voters to rally behind Rotich, expressing confidence that his victory would secure DCP its first parliamentary seat.

The DCP party officials actively campaigned for the candidate ahead of the by-election slated for May 14, 2026.

The Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area MP Johana Ngeno, who perished in a helicopter crash in February 2026 alongside five others.
