The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has announced a fresh wave of political defections from the Jubilee Party, with Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan among a group of leaders and aspirants who have joined the party.
DCP said the latest entrants are part of its efforts to expand its support base and bring together leaders from different political backgrounds ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The party welcomed Hassan following his reported departure from Jubilee, alongside several Jubilee constituency officials and political aspirants.
“Our Party, DCP, is growing by leaps and bounds. We are uniting everyone and scattering no one in our efforts to consolidate our support base and bring more members into our fold,” the party said.
List of leaders joining DCPThe leaders identified by the party include:
1. Yusuf Hassan – Kamukunji Member of Parliament.
2. Stanley Kimure – Jubilee Starehe chairman.
3. Michael Ngugi – Jubilee Embakasi South chairman.
4. Joseph Mathenge – Jubilee Langata chairman.
5. Joseph Waichigo – Jubilee Kibra chairman.
6. Josphat Kimani – Jubilee Embakasi North chairman.
7. S. Githuka – Jubilee Mathare chairman.
8. Francis Njoroge – Jubilee Roysambu chairman.
9. Eric Mugambi – Jubilee Embakasi East chairman.
10. Peter Njoroge – Jubilee Kasarani chairman.
11. G. Ndegwa – Jubilee Kasarani chairman.
12. Nimmy Mwangi – Jubilee Embakasi West chairman.
Aspirants and former MP also join
DCP also announced the defection of several political aspirants and a former MP.
They include Waihenya Ndirangu, a former MP for Roysambu Constituency, as well as John Maina of Clay City Ward, Mary Muthua and Kelvin Mwangi of Njiru Ward.
Others are Joseph Kinuthia, Ann Wangari and Mama Prince of Central Ward, Mary Machoki of Kibra and Jaramba of Komarock Ward.
The party described the new arrivals as evidence of its expanding political influence, particularly in Nairobi.
The latest defections come at a time when political parties are increasingly seeking to strengthen their grassroots networks ahead of the 2027 elections, with Nairobi expected to remain a key battleground.
DCP said its strategy is to bring together leaders and supporters rather than divide them.
“We are uniting everyone and scattering no one,” the party said, as it welcomed the new members into its fold.
The party concluded its announcement with the slogan: “The future is Green. Green is Wealth.”The move could further reshape political alignments in Nairobi, particularly in constituencies and wards where the newly announced DCP members have previously operated under Jubilee structures.
