Bomet University gets new council chaired by Prof John Shiundu

Bomet University has appointed a new council chaired by Professor John Shiundu, following a Gazette notice issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba.

The new council will serve for a three-year term beginning September 11, 2026, as the newly established university moves to strengthen its governance and institutional structures.

According to Gazette Notice No. 14421, Ogamba made the appointments in exercise of powers conferred under Section 36(1) of the Universities Act.

Prof Shiundu has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Bomet University Council under Paragraph (a) of the Act.

The Cabinet Secretary also appointed Dr Emily Kwamboka Nyagarama, Rose Chepkorir, Fredrick Njoroge, Reuben C. Butaki and Amos Okello as members of the council under Paragraph (d).

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) of the Universities Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints, Under Paragraph (a)—John Shiundu (Prof.) – Chairperson, Under Paragraph (d) Emily Kwamboka Nyagarama (Dr.), Rose Chepkorir, Fredrick Njoroge, Reuben C. Butaki, Amos Okello, to be the Non-Executive Chairperson and Members of the Council of Bomet University, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 11th September, 2026.”

The appointments take effect from September 11, 2026, and will run for three years.

The council is expected to play a key role in overseeing the university’s governance, strategic direction and institutional development as Bomet University continues to establish itself as a fully-fledged institution of higher learning.

The appointments come as the university prepares for its growing student population and expansion of academic and administrative programmes.

Bomet University recently began admitting students under its new status, with thousands of learners expected to join various programmes as the institution expands its operations.

The establishment of the new council provides the university with a formal governance structure to oversee its affairs and guide its long-term development.

The appointments were formally gazetted on September 11, 2026, by Education CS Ogamba.
