Police in Nairobi have destroyed more than 2,700 litres of illicit alcohol in a crackdown targeting suspected brewing and drug-selling dens in Kahawa West.
The operation, conducted by officers from Kahawa West Police Station, saw police destroy 2,600 litres of kangara and 120 litres of chang’aa in the Soweto and Saa Mbaya areas.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement on Friday, September 25, 2026, said officers also dismantled and destroyed equipment allegedly used to produce the illicit brews.
Police target brewing dens
The crackdown targeted premises suspected of being used to manufacture and distribute illicit alcohol as well as sell drugs.
The NPS said the operation is part of intensified enforcement against activities considered a threat to public safety and the well-being of residents.
The latest seizure adds to a series of police operations across the country targeting illegal alcohol production, with authorities increasingly focusing on premises where brews are manufactured and distributed outside the regulated alcohol industry.
NPS vows more crackdowns
The police service said enforcement against illicit brewing and other activities linked to crime will continue.
“The National Police Service remains focused on safeguarding communities through sustained enforcement against activities that facilitate crime,” the Service said.
Police said the operations are also aimed at deterring criminal activities and maintaining law and order in affected communities.
“Police officers attached to Kahawa West Police Station in the Nairobi Region have intensified action against the production and distribution of illicit brews,” the Service said.
The police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect communities from substances that pose a threat to public safety and wellbeing.
The latest crackdown brings renewed attention to illicit alcohol production in Nairobi, particularly operations targeting premises where brews are manufactured and distributed outside the regulated system.
Police seek public cooperation
The NPS urged residents to provide information on premises suspected of engaging in illegal activities.
“We urge members of the public to continue sharing timely information with the nearest police station,” the Service said.
The Kahawa West crackdown comes amid continued police operations targeting illicit alcohol production and distribution in different parts of Nairobi and other parts of the country.
