KeRRA has listed the two Chepalungu road packages for completion works, with mandatory site meetings scheduled for October 13 and 14, 2026.
Chepalungu residents are set to benefit from renewed efforts to upgrade key roads in the constituency to bitumen standards, with MP Victor Koech announcing that two major road packages have been tendered.
Koech said the development follows commitments made by President William Ruto during his visit to Chebunyo and subsequent confirmation by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.
The roads targeted are the Longisa–Kipreres–Sigor–Kaboson–Chebunyo and Sigor–Olbutyo route, as well as the Siongiroi–Ndanai–Kamukunji road.
“The transformation of Chepalungu Constituency is firmly on course,” Koech said in a statement.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has listed the Longisa–Kipreres–Sigor/Kaboson–Chebunyo/Olbutyo–Sigor project under RWC 1068, while the Kamukunji–Ndanai–Siongiroi road is listed under RWC 1069 as completion projects.
The authority has scheduled mandatory site meetings for the two Bomet projects on October 13 and October 14, respectively, as the procurement process progresses.
Ruto’s earlier road promise
The latest development builds on the government’s ongoing road programme in Chepalungu.
President Ruto launched the upgrading of the Longisa–Sigor–Chebunyo and Kyogong–Sigor roads to bitumen standards in March 2024.
The project was initially estimated at about Sh2.2 billion and covered approximately 60 kilometres.
In March 2026, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki inspected the ongoing works on the Kyogong–Kapkesosio–Sigor–Kaboson–Chebunyo/Sigor–Lelaitich–Kipreres–Longisa road.
The project, covering about 65 kilometres, was put at a cost of Ksh2.1 billion and is expected to improve connectivity between Chepalungu and neighbouring Bomet East.
The wider road programme is part of a government plan to upgrade hundreds of kilometres of roads across Bomet County to bitumen standards.
The government has previously indicated that about 525 kilometres of roads in the county are targeted at a cost of approximately Sh19.5 billion.
MP Koech: More roads to be connected
Koech welcomed the latest development, saying the road upgrades would progressively expand connectivity within Chepalungu.
“I am truly happy with this transformation. Step by step, and time by time, we will continue to connect and extend more roads to bitumen standards,” he said.
The MP also thanked President Ruto for supporting the road projects.
“Asante sana Mheshimiwa Rais,” Koech said.
The planned road upgrades are expected to improve movement of people and agricultural produce while connecting residents to markets, schools, health facilities and other services.
Road infrastructure remains a major issue in Chepalungu, with Koech previously raising concerns in Parliament over delays in upgrading the Kyogong–Sigor–Chebunyo and Sigor–Longisa road to bitumen standards.
Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir said in August 2026 that the government had mobilised Sh139 billion to clear outstanding road contractors’ bills and accelerate ongoing projects.
For Chepalungu residents, the latest tendering of the two road packages marks another step in the push to expand the constituency’s tarmac network and improve links between key trading and agricultural centres.
