President William Ruto has announced a multi-billion-shilling investment package targeting roads, electricity connectivity and markets in Bomet County.
peaking in Bomet County on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Ruto said the government will spend Sh19 billion to construct 11 roads covering more than 380 kilometres, in a move he said would improve connectivity and support economic activity across the county.
The President also announced Sh2.8 billion for electricity connectivity, targeting 25,000 households in Bomet.
In addition, the government will invest Sh1.78 billion to construct 11 modern markets across the county.
“In Bomet County, we are investing KSh19 billion to build 11 roads covering more than 380km. We are also investing KSh2.8 billion to connect 25,000 households to electricity and KSh1.78 billion to construct 11 modern markets,” Ruto said.
The three programmes amount to approximately Sh23.58 billion in planned investments.
Ruto launches Sh5.2bn Kapkwen-Olbutyo-Siongiroi road
Later, Ruto launched the construction of the 91-kilometre Kapkwen-Olbutyo-Siongiroi road, a project valued at Sh5.2 billion.
The President said the road will improve connectivity within the region, ease access to markets and essential services, and support trade and economic activity along the corridor.
The project is expected to strengthen transport links between communities and trading centres while reducing challenges associated with poor road infrastructure.
“Later, launched the construction of the 91km Kapkwen-Olbutyo-Siongiroi road. The KSh5.2 billion road will improve connectivity, ease access to markets and essential services and support trade and economic activity along the corridor.”
Itembe Airstrip upgrade reaches 75 per cent
Ruto also inspected the ongoing upgrading of the Itembe Airstrip in Bomet East Constituency, where he said he was impressed by the progress made under Phase One of the project.
Phase One is currently 75 per cent complete and includes the tarmacking of the 1-kilometre runway.
According to Ruto, Phase Two will expand the runway to 1.2 kilometres and involve the construction of terminal and other service facilities.
“Inspected the upgrading of Itembe Airstrip in Bomet East Constituency. Impressed by the progress of Phase One, which is 75 per cent complete, including the tarmacking of the 1km runway. Phase Two will expand the runway to 1.2km and include terminal and service facilities.”
The upgrade is expected to improve air connectivity in Bomet and provide infrastructure that can support movement of people, goods and services.
