A helicopter carrying Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Festus K. Ng’eno crashed at Kericho Golf Club on Monday afternoon, leaving several occupants injured.
Kericho County Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo confirmed that no fatalities had been reported in the initial update following the incident.
Ng’eno was among six people reportedly aboard the helicopter, registration number 5Y-FSK, when it crashed.
The incident reportedly occurred amid heavy rains in the area. Witness accounts indicate that the helicopter had barely gained altitude after take-off when it lost height and came down at the golf club.

The injured occupants were evacuated from the wreckage and rushed to South Rift Hospital for medical attention, as emergency personnel and security officers responded to the scene.
Authorities are yet to establish the exact cause of the crash, with investigations expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. While heavy rains were reported in the area, it remains unclear whether weather conditions contributed to the crash.
Ng’eno heads the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, which is responsible for coordinating government initiatives on environmental conservation, climate resilience and climate change response.
Further details on the condition of the injured occupants and the circumstances of the crash are expected as authorities continue their investigations.
