The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed speculation of internal divisions, insisting the party remains united, organized and firmly committed to the broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration.
In a statement issued after a meeting in Nairobi on Monday, July 27, 2026, ODM said 35 county chairpersons from across the country, alongside Majority and Minority leaders from various county assemblies, reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and its leadership.
The meeting was attended by Party Leader Oburu Oginga, Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, and Council of County Chairpersons Chairman Fernandes Barasa.
“Party County Chairpersons and Majority & Minority Leaders from the various County Assemblies across the country met today in Nairobi, where they affirmed their commitment to the party and the broad-based government, an idea that was initiated by our departed Party Leader, the late Raila Amolo Odinga,” ODM stated.

According to the party, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the broad-based government, describing it as an idea initiated by the late former party leader Raila Odinga.
“The party is strong. The party is united. The party remains organized,” ODM said, dismissing reports suggesting cracks within its ranks.
The clarification comes amid growing political debate over ODM’s continued participation in the broad-based government, with some leaders and supporters questioning the party’s working relationship with President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration as the country prepares for 2027 power sharing deals.
Unity within the party
Despite the concerns, ODM leaders maintained that the consultative meeting was cordial and demonstrated unity among the party’s grassroots leadership, county assembly leaders and national officials.

The broad-based government arrangement emerged in 2024 after months of anti-government protests and bipartisan negotiations that culminated in Raila Odinga and President Ruto agreeing to work together on key national issues.
The cooperation saw several senior ODM members appointed to the Cabinet, a move the party said was aimed at fostering national unity and accelerating the implementation of development programmes.
