Police arrest person of interest, recover stolen phone in Nairobi

Police in Nairobi have arrested a person of interest and recovered a mobile phone allegedly stolen during a robbery in the Kawangware 56 area.

The incident happened on Thursday, October 1, 2026, after officers from Muthangari Police Station responded to a report from a member of the public concerning a robbery in the area.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), a woman had been accosted by two persons of interest who were riding on a motorcycle before her mobile phone was taken.

Police intercept motorcycle after robbery

The officers launched an immediate pursuit after receiving the report, according to the NPS.

The pursuit led to the interception of the motorcycle, with police managing to apprehend the pillion passenger while the rider fled the scene.

A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of the victim’s mobile phone, which police said had been stolen during the incident.

The motorcycle allegedly used during the robbery was also recovered and taken into police custody as investigations continued.

The arrested person of interest was detained at Muthangari Police Station pending arraignment in court.

The NPS said the individual is expected to face the relevant charges following completion of police procedures.

NPS praises swift police response

The National Police Service commended the officers involved for their swift response after receiving the robbery report.

The service also thanked members of the public for cooperating with police during the incident, highlighting the importance of timely reporting in responding to crime.

The NPS urged Nairobi residents and other members of the public to continue working closely with police officers and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency services.

The recovery of the phone and motorcycle came shortly after the reported robbery, as officers continued efforts to identify and apprehend other persons of interest linked to the incident.
