Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has written to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, raising concerns over his safety ahead of a planned visit to Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County on Friday, August 21, 2026.

In a letter dated Thursday , August 20, 2026, Gachagua said he would visit the constituency at the invitation of DCP candidate Vincent Rotich, who contested the May 14 by-election and finished second.

“I will join thousands of DCP supporters in the company of leaders from across the country for this thanksgiving occasion,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President claimed that threats had been issued against his planned visit by the current Emurua Dikirr MP David Kipsang Keter and other individuals.

“My attention has, however, been drawn to threats issued by the current Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, Mr. David Kipsang Keter and a handful of others… that my entourage and I should not set foot in Emurua Dikirr on 21st August 2026,” he said.

Gachagua further alleged that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo had backed efforts to mobilise individuals and plain-clothes police officers to disrupt his visit.

Possible event disruption

He claimed that the planned events could result in violence similar to what was witnessed in Homa Bay over the weekend.

“What happened in Homa Bay was a shame of the highest magnitude in post-independence Kenya,” Gachagua said, while accusing the police leadership of failing to protect Kenyans.

Gachagua reminded Kanja of his constitutional responsibility to protect life and property, insisting that he had a right to travel to any part of the country.

“I am a Kenyan with the right to visit any part of the country, and I have the right to enjoy the freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution of Kenya. Note that Emurua Dikirr is part of Kenya,” he said.

The DCP leader also raised his previous complaints to the National Police Service, saying he had presented evidence concerning 24 alleged attacks against him during a visit to Kanja’s office on January 30, 2026.

“Several months later, no action has been taken by yourselves. The persons involved in the attacks are still wreaking havoc across the country as you watch,” he claimed.

Gachagua also accused President William Ruto, Murkomen and Omollo of placing Kanja at risk of facing criminal responsibility over alleged police failures, warning that he could become a “sacrificial lamb.”

He challenged the police chief to either take charge of the National Police Service ahead of the 2027 General Election or resign.

Gachagua concluded his letter by seeking assurances from Kanja on the security of his entourage, DCP supporters and residents of Emurua Dikirr during his visit.

He specifically asked whether the Inspector General could assure the country that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect life and property in the constituency.

Therefore, Mr. Kanja:

i. Can you assure the country that my entourage, the people of Emurua Dikirr, and I will be safe on 21st August 2026?

ii. Can you assure the country that you are adequately aware that my supporters and I will be in Emurua Dikirr on 21st August 2026?

iii. Can you inform the people of Kenya that you have put in place adequate security measures to protect life and property in Emurua Dikirr on 21st August 2026?
