Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has formally left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and announced that he has joined the People’s Party of Kenya and the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro made the announcement on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, where he confirmed that he and his supporters had joined the People’s Party of Kenya.
The lawmaker said the decision followed nearly a year of consultations, introspection and engagements with leaders across the opposition.

He named former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, former Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Fred Matiang’i, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Siaya Governor James Orengo among the leaders he had consulted before making the decision.
“I have been carrying a heavy burden. I have been thinking and praying that in whatever direction I take, politically speaking, the people of Kenya must be the great consideration that I have,” Nyoro said.
The Kiharu MP said his decision was guided by the need to put the interests of Kenyans at the centre of his political choices.
Nyoro also confirmed that he and his supporters had formally joined the opposition through the People’s Party of Kenya.
“Mimi kama Ndindi Nyoro na wafuasi wangu, kutoka leo, nimeingia chama inaitwa People’s Party of Kenya. As all members of the People’s Party of Kenya, we have today joined the opposition,” he announced.
He urged Kenyans to consider the People’s Party of Kenya as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election, saying the party has leaders who can work with others to bring about change.

“Mkiangalia viongozi wale watapeleka Kenya mbele from next year, I also ask humbly the people of Kenya, muangalie pia People’s Party. Pia wao wako na viongozi wanaweza shikana mkono na wengine na tukomboe Kenya August of next year,” Nyoro said.
Nyoro said he had deliberately taken time to consult widely before making the move, noting that he had held discussions with nearly all major opposition leaders.
“I have taken time to consult almost all the opposition leaders. I have sat down with Peter Munya, Martha Karua, and James Orengo. You know Sifuna is my brother. I have sat down with Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka,” he said.
He added that his consultations had also included former Cabinet Secretary and Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i.
“I want to confirm to you, I have had almost a year-long consultation with most of them including almost for a whole year, Dr Fred Matiang’i,” Nyoro said.
The move marks a major shift in Nyoro’s political alignment as political parties and leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
