KAA issues alert as departing flights face delays at Kenyan airports

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a passenger advisory warning of delays affecting some departing flights at airports across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, KAA said it was working with aviation agencies, airlines and other stakeholders to manage the situation and minimise disruption to airport operations.

“KAA is working closely with the relevant aviation agencies, airlines, and other stakeholders to manage the situation, minimise disruption, and facilitate the smooth flow of airport operations,” the authority said.

The airport operator, however, did not disclose the cause of the delays or indicate the number of flights affected.

Passengers have been urged to contact their respective airlines for the latest information on their flight status before proceeding with their journeys.

“Passengers are advised to contact their respective Airlines for the latest information on their flight status and to plan their journeys accordingly,” KAA stated.

The authority expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience and understanding from passengers and other airport users as efforts continue to address the situation.

“Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” KAA added.

KAA apologised to passengers and other airport users for the inconvenience caused by the delays and thanked them for their patience as the situation was being addressed.

“KAA regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of passengers and other airport users as the situation is addressed,” the authority said.

The advisory comes months after Kenya’s aviation sector experienced major disruptions in February following industrial action by aviation workers, which affected flight schedules and operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). However, KAA has not linked Sunday’s delays to any industrial action or disclosed the specific cause of the current disruptions.
