Motorists using Waiyaki Way have been put on notice of traffic disruptions after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a partial closure of the Mombasa-bound lanes for one month.

The affected section, between Kempinski and the Museum Hill Interchange, will be partially closed from Thursday, October 8, to Saturday, November 7, 2026, to allow maintenance works.

In a public notice issued on Friday, October 2, KeNHA said the closure was necessary to facilitate highway maintenance on the busy Nairobi road.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between Kempinski and Museum Hill Interchange on the Mombasa-bound lanes will be partially closed temporarily from Thursday, October 8, 2026 to Saturday, November 7, 2026.

“This closure is to allow for highway maintenance works on the road section,” KeNHA said.

Motorists advised to plan ahead

The authority advised motorists to use the sections of the highway that will remain open and consider alternative routes to minimise delays.

KeNHA also urged motorists to adhere to the traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to manage traffic around the affected section.

“Motorists are further advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site. Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” the authority added.

The closure is expected to affect motorists travelling towards the city centre and other areas connected through the Museum Hill Interchange, particularly during peak hours.

Motorists using the route have therefore been encouraged to factor in additional travel time and consider alternative routes where necessary.

Comes amid road maintenance works

The Waiyaki Way closure comes as KeNHA continues to undertake maintenance and rehabilitation works on several roads across the country.

The authority recently announced a temporary closure of a section of the Thika-Kilimambogo (A3) Road at Gatuanyaga near Delmonte Farms.

KeNHA said motorists using the Thika-Kilimambogo Road would be required to use designated diversion lanes to minimise disruption and observe road safety measures.

The authority has continued to advise motorists to follow traffic management measures and cooperate with traffic officers during ongoing road works.
