Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has cautioned members of the public against fraudsters allegedly exploiting the death of his sister, Ann Chebochok, to solicit money through unauthorized fundraising campaigns.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Ruto said the family had noted with concern that some individuals were using social media and other platforms to seek financial contributions in the family’s name without approval.
“We have noted with great concern that some individuals are taking advantage of the passing of our beloved Sister Ann Chebochok to solicit financial contributions through social media and other platforms in the name of the family,” the statement read.

Ruto emphasized that the family had not authorized any person or group to conduct fundraising outside the official family arrangements.
He clarified that the family is coordinating support through only one official WhatsApp group and urged well-wishers to channel any financial contributions exclusively through the designated family coordinator, Nicholas Tonui.
“The family is using only one official WhatsApp group to coordinate support and any financial contributions should be channeled only through the family’s designated coordinator,” the statement said.
The former governor appealed to the public to ignore any other fundraising requests purporting to represent the family, warning that such appeals were unauthorized.

“We sincerely appreciate your continued prayers, encouragement and the support you have continued to extend to our family during this difficult time,” he added.
