Three children died in Chepalungu house fire

Three young children have died after a fire gutted a kitchen where they were sleeping at Kimatisio Village in Nyongores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency, in a tragedy that has left the local community in shock.

Confirming the incident in a Facebook statement on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Bomet Senator, Hillary Sigei said the victims, a seven-year-old child and six-year-old twins, reportedly perished when the fire consumed the structure during the night.

Senator Sigei expressed sorrow over the incident, describing the deaths as a heartbreaking loss.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of three innocent children, a seven-year-old and two six-year-old twins who lost their lives after a fire consumed the kitchen where they were sleeping at Kimatisio Village, Nyongores Ward, Chepalungu Constituency,” he said.

Sigei conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, friends and the entire Kimatisio community, saying no words could ease the pain of losing young lives in such a tragic manner.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family, relatives, friends, and the entire Kimatisio community during this painful and unimaginable time. No words can truly ease the pain of losing young lives in such a tragic manner,” he added.

He assured the family of support during the difficult period, saying, “We stand with you in this moment of immense grief and sorrow, and we will support you as you come to terms with this painful loss. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace, and may the souls of the departed children rest in eternal peace.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Night inferno cases in Bomet

This comes just a month after a quiet of midnight in Salaik village, Bomet Central, was shattered early Saturday morning by screams of “Fire!”

Within an hour, a tragic blaze had reduced a home to ashes and claimed the life of a 32-year-old man, leaving a community grappling with grief and questions.

The deceased, whose body was burned beyond recognition, was trapped inside his timber-built house during the 2:00 a.m. incident.

According to local administration, the victim had returned home roughly two hours prior to the tragedy.

”Reports indicate the young man returned to his house at around midnight, and he appeared to be heavily intoxicated,” said Mugango Area Assistant Chief Richard Rotich. “Shortly after he went inside, a neighbour noticed smoke and heavy flames erupting from the structure. He raised the alarm immediately.”
