Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has announced that the Kinyanga Footbridge in Sigor Ward has entered its final phase of construction, saying the project will improve connectivity between Bomet and Narok counties and enhance economic activity along the Amalo River corridor.
The 40-metre bridge is being built across the Amalo River and is expected to provide a safer and more reliable crossing for residents moving between Kinyang’a in Bomet County and Chemorut in Narok County.

In a statement on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Governor Barchok said the infrastructure would significantly ease cross-border movement and support local livelihoods.
“Stretching over 40 metres across the Amalo River, this infrastructure will ease cross-border movement between Kinyang’a, Bomet and Chemorut, Narok, boosting local trade and daily commuting for our people,” he said.
The governor noted that the bridge has been designed to withstand heavy flooding, a recurring challenge that has often disrupted movement in the area during rainy seasons.

“The flood-defying design is specifically engineered to withstand raging waters and keep this crossing operational through every rainy season,” Barchok stated.
Residents of Sigor Ward have for years relied on seasonal crossings that become dangerous or impassable when the river swells, affecting access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
Barchok said the project is part of his administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure in rural areas and improving public safety.
“This bridge delivers on my pledge to provide safer passage and drive tangible economic progress right where our people live,” he said.
Once completed, the Kinyanga Footbridge is expected to become a key link between communities on both sides of the Amalo River, facilitating trade, reducing travel disruptions during floods and improving day-to-day mobility for residents of Bomet and neighboring Narok County.
