University of Kabianga student and musician Lawrence Malot has broken his silence after being involved in a road accident in Kericho County, dismissing claims that he was drunk at the time of the incident.
In a statement on his Facebook account on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Malot said he was driving from Eldoret towards Kericho after working on a music project when the accident occurred along the Kapsuser-Tegat road.
According to Malot, he had earlier dropped off music producer Tuwei and a mother travelling with her child in Kericho before proceeding with another passenger he identified him as Mr Pilot.
He said the accident happened after he diverted from the usual route following heavy traffic caused by another accident near Kapsuser.
“Two moms with three little kids were on the road. There was no other option because the children became confused on the road and ran towards different directions as there was an event in that area,” Malot said.
He said he was forced to swerve off the road to avoid hitting the children.

“I had to only turn the vehicle off the road, and because it was a valley, it overturned,” he said.
Malot said he and Mr Pilot managed to get out of the vehicle, although he sustained a serious injury to his right hand.
He was initially taken to Sosiot Medical Centre, but the facility was closed. He was subsequently rushed to Chepnyogaa Health Centre, where he received first aid and wound repair.
He said Mr Pilot was later taken to Kericho Referral Hospital for further assessment after becoming confused following the accident.
Malot said X-rays showed that he had suffered a fracture to his right hand.
“We are now okay,” he said, thanking friends and well-wishers who visited him, called and sent messages wishing him a quick recovery.
The musician also sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crash, disputing claims circulating on social media that he was drunk or that eight people were travelling in the vehicle.

“I’m not drunk. I personally don’t drink,” Malot said, adding that he had driven from Eldoret to Kericho before the accident.
He further clarified that after dropping off Tuwei and the mother with her child, only he and Mr Pilot remained in the vehicle.
Malot said he was now at the University of Kabianga and expressed gratitude that he and his passenger survived the crash.
